ADMISSION INFORMATION OF MBBS PROGRAM 2023，SHANDONG UNIVERSITY

I. About Shandong University

Shandong University （SDU）,under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, is a key comprehensive university with a long and honorable history, a broad variety of disciplines, strong academic strength and distinctive characteristics, which has had a great influence both at home and abroad. Shandong University is one of the initiative universities of modern Chinese higher education. Its medical school, Cheeloo College of Medicine, can be traced back to 1864, signifying the beginning of modern Chinese higher education.

For more than 100 years, Cheeloo College of Medicine has been committed to cultivating medical elites and protecting human health. Since 1949, it has trained more than 45,000 medical professionals, making important contributions to the medical and health cause. It has 4 affiliated hospitals and 15 teaching hospitals.

II. About MBBS program

Starting the program in 2002, Shandong University is one of the first 45 universities to admit international students to the MBBS program in English. Shandong University was recognized as the Demonstration Base for international student education by the Ministry of Education in 2013. Over the 20 years, Shandong University has cultivated 1000 graduates from 34 countries. Currently more than 300 MBBS students studying here from 25 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, America, Africa and Australia, etc.

III. Duration and degree of the program

The duration of the MBBS program is 6 years. Students should complete the program within a maximum of 8 years. Qualified students will receive the Bachelor Degree of Medicine.

IV. Structure of MBBS curriculum

Stage 1: Strengthen language learning and basic subject knowledge

In the first year, students focus on languages study, basic sciences courses, medical introductory theory, cultural experiences, etc., which can help students gain solid Chinese listening and speaking abilities and better adjust to medical study and living in China.

Stage 2: Basic medical knowledge learning

In the 2-3 years, students will mainly concentrate on basic medical courses, such as Cell Biology, Histology and Embryology, Human Genetics, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Pathology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Pathophysiology, Medical Immunology, Problem Based Learning (PBL), etc.

Stage 3: Clinical Courses

In the 4-5 years, students will mainly have clinical courses including Internal Medicine, Surgery Medicine, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Community Medicine, Neurology, Medical Imagology, Clinical Skills Training, etc.

Stage 4: Clinical rotation in SDU affiliated hospital.

 

 

V. Who is eligible to apply?

 

1. Age: 18-35 years old.

2. Be in good health. Applicants shall provide qualified Certificate of Physical Examination.

3. English language requirements.

(1). Applicants whose native language or official language is English are exempt from providing English language certification.

(2) Applicants whose native language or official language is not English are required to submit the results of the IELTS (6.0 or above), TOEFL (80 points or above, SDU’s DI code: C296), MyBest Scores (80 points or above), Essentials test (8 points or above) or other equivalent certificates of English proficiency.

(3) Applicants whose native language or official language is not English and who have obtained the highest degree in an institution where the primary language of instruction is English, do not need to provide IELTS/TOEFL scores. The official proof must be submitted.

4. Applicants should have a high school diploma or above, with good academic scores in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology.

VI. Scholarships & fees

1. SDU Freshman Scholarship for International Students

2. Academic Scholarship (annual)

1) First prize: 3,000 RMB

2) Second prize: 2,000 RMB

3) Third prize: 1,000 RMB

Application time: The school will award this scholarship to the students based on their grades after every academic year.

Other Living Expenses (Dependent on the students)

On-campus Accommodation (600 RMB as a deposit)：

Double room around 10,000 RMB/year

Single room  around 13,000 RMB/year

VII. Application Procedure

All the international applicants shall apply from the Online Application System:

STEP 1: Register your account and activate it.

STEP 2: Fill out the application and upload all required documents as follows

1. The biographic page of the applicant’s passport (personal ordinary passport must be valid until at least October 31st, 2023).

2. The high school diploma or equivalent or pre-graduation certification.

If the applicant has not received the high school diploma or equivalent yet, a pre-graduation certification should be presented to affirm the applicant will graduate soon (the official seal of the school must be affixed).

Note: Applicants who apply using a pre-graduation certificate must state their expected graduation time and must obtain a graduation certificate before enrolling in September 2023.

3. Transcripts of all courses taken when pursuing the high school degree (the official seal of the school must be affixed).

4. A Letter of Motivation in Chinese or English

 Applicants applying for Chinese-taught programs should write in Chinese, and applicants applying for English-taught programs should write in English.

5. Language Proficiency Proof

The language certificate must be within the validity period at the time of application. If applicants provide the proof which states that the entire program was given in English or Chinese, it has to be issued, signed and stamped by the university that administered the program.

6. Foreigner Physical Examination Form

Applicants must take physical examinations in strict accordance with the requirements of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form, which must be fully filled in (please click the link to download the template: https://www.istudy.sdu.edu.cn/info/1267/3354.htm). Incomplete forms or forms without signature of the attending physician, hospital stamp, and stamped photo will not be considered. Please ensure the physical examination remains valid during the application as the result is valid for only 6 months.

7. Certificate of No Criminal Conviction (it must be within the validity period at the time of application).

8. Scanned copies of Statement of Financial Support through a Guarantor and its supporting documents (applicants for Chinese Government Scholarship are exempt from these requirements), including:

(1) Statement of Financial Support through a Guarantor, which should be filled in in Chinese or English

(2) Bank Statement certifying that the applicant has sufficient funds to cover his or her tuition, accommodation, living expenses and international travels during his or her study in China;

(3) The scanned copies of the passport biographic page or I.D. card of the applicant’s financial guarantor (only the applicant himself/herself or his/her direct family can act as a financial guarantor).

9. Applicants under the age of 18 must submit supporting documents.

STEP 3: Submit the application and note your application number.

STEP 4: Check your admission status regularly.

STEP 5: If your application is successful, you will receive your pre-admission letter through e-mail

STEP 6: Check your pre-admission notice and pay admission fees before the due date.

After you get the pre-admission notice from the university, you shall pay 400 RMB (application fees) and 2,000 RMB enrollment deposit. The enrollment deposit will be deducted from the tuition fee once the student starts his or her studies.

STEP 8: Receive originals of “Admission Notice” and “JW202/JW201” by post.
