MBBS program has passed the Chinese Clinical Medicine Professional certification, and is one of the 45 universities authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Education to recruit MBBS students. It is also the education demonstration base for international students in China.
2. What are the features of Shandong University’s MBBS program?
MBBS is an English-taught program, and is one of the program of clinical medicine major with strong faculty, advanced teaching and experiment facilities. The program closely follows the international medical development trend to develop training programs in line with the actual needs, focus on clinical thinking and skills training of students. From the second year to the sixth year, courses of preview in hospital, PBL, novitiate, clinical skills training and internship are run through the whole process, that ensure students can obtain good medical theory knowledge and practical ability. 3. Is the medical school/institutions presently accredited?
Shandong University was recognized by the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education, Ministry of Education of China in 2017, and the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education, Ministry of Education of China was recognized by World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) in 2020. Hereby, Shandong University is accredited by the recognized by WFME.
4. What about the affiliated hospital or teaching hospital of Shandong University?
MBBS students will work as interns at the affiliated hospitals of Shandong University. The affiliated hospitals of Shandong University include Qilu Hospital, the Second Hospital of Shandong University, Stomatological Hospital Shandong University and Reproductive Hospital of Shandong University. Among them, Qilu Hospital ranks among the top in China with strong strength, with more than 5,100 beds and 3.8 million outpatient visits annually. The Second Hospital of Shandong University is a hospital under the supervision of the National Health Commission with 4500 beds. 5. How many weeks of clinical practice in the MBBS program?
According to the Regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education, the MBBS program is six years, and the sixth year is internship. The internship lasts for one year, approximately 48 weeks excluding statutory holidays. To meet the specific requirements of some countries, the rotation can be 48+4 weeks.
6. Can students take a job during their studies?
Students are using student visas so they cannot work during their studies. The school can provide work-study positions for students from poor families or students who want to enrich their campus life.
7. Can foreigners sit in the Chinese board exam?
You can. According to Chinese regulations, students can apply for the Chinese medical qualification examination after one year of hospital training after graduation.
8. Why is learning Chinese required?
Firstly, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, students in this program should pass HSK 4 before clinical practice. Secondly, it is because the project will be an internship in affiliated hospital, good Chinese ability will be very beneficial to the hospital internship. During the internship, although the doctors can speak English, the patients can only use Chinese. Learning Chinese well will enable you to communicate with the patients and learn more clinical knowledge and skills to the maximum extent. In addition, students live and study in China for six years, so learning Chinese well can make you feel very comfortable in China. As a language, it is no longer difficult for university students, and many students pass HSK 4 after one year of study. It is also a lot of fun. 9. What kind of city is Jinan? Where is medical campus of Shandong University?

11. What is the food like in Jinan?
Shandong produces most of fruits, vegetables and seafood for China. Students can buy reasonable prices and excellent quality fruits, vegetables, meat, coffee and other daily necessities in the booths and various types of supermarkets. No matter what kind of food you like, you can easily find it in Jinan, such as vegetarian food, halal food, Western food, eight major Chinese cuisines and so on.
12. What are the accommodation facilities like?
Medical students can apply for on-campus accommodation including single and double rooms, with public bathrooms, public kitchens, washing machines, self-study rooms and other modern facilities to meet the needs of students.
13. Is it safe to send female students there?
China is one of the safest countries in the world, and Jinan, as the capital of Shandong Province, deserves trust in its security. Each campus has its own resident police station, which receives alarm calls 24 hours a day. The campus has dedicated security personnel, and they strictly abide by the rules and regulations to ensure that students return to campus within the specified time. Students are required to scan their faces in and out of dormitories. 14. How much does the MBBS program cost? When do you usually pay?
The tuition fee is 45,000 yuan a year, or about $7,000.
Tuition for the first year is payable after admission. From the second year onwards, students usually pay before the new semester starts.
15. About scholarship application
MBBS is a self-funded program taught in English.
The Cheeloo College of Medicine Freshman Scholarship for International Students is 10% of tuition fees (4500RMB) available to all the freshmen who pass the entrance exam.
From the 2nd-5th year, the top 20% students can apply for Academic Scholarship. First prize is 3000 RMB (top 3%), second prize is 2000 RMB (7%), and third prize is 1000 RMB (10%).
Students can apply for the Shandong University Scholarship for Outstanding International Students during admission application. As the scholarship is open to applicants of all majors in SDU including bachelor, Master & Ph.D. programs, it is difficult to get. Students who apply to the program on a full scholarship are unlikely to be accepted.
16. Interview Notes
Students who qualify for the interview are required to prepare a one-minute self-introduction and answer questions from the interviewing teacher, including an open-ended question. The interview results will be reviewed through the system within 5 working days. Before the interview, please have your personal identification ready for reference.
17. How much is the accommodation fee on campus?
Campus dormitories include single rooms and double rooms, and the fees are about 10,000-12,600 yuan per year. Students can also choose to live off campus, with a shared rent of 1,000 yuan per person per month and a full lease of 2,000 yuan per month.
18. Apart from tuition fee and accommodation fee, what are the other expenses?
Every year, students need to take out an insurance policy of 800 yuan, and the purchase of books is about 200 yuan. The cost of books is not necessary. Our school provides free e-book databases for students to use, and students can use our rich library resources.
