2018山大日记：基础医学院MBBS留学生 Kwanele Ntaka

　　My adventure to China started when I was in first grade. The desire to help people and be able to make a change in a person’s life was planted by family values and from there the dream to be a doctor began. I didn’t know that it would escalate to me moving to another country to pursue this dream, especially China!
　　中国之旅开始于大一那年。帮助他人、救助他人的生命一直根植于我的家庭观念里，我的医生之梦也由此开始。但我从来没想过，我竟然来到国外追寻我的梦想，尤其是中国！
　　I am telling this story in my comfort zone in Jinan, listening to music and watching a beautiful Jinan sunset with familiar faces who have been with me since 2013.
　　我和我的2013级同学们一起，在济南度过了舒适的生活，和熟悉的面孔一起听音乐，欣赏济南美丽的日落。
　　When I was finishing my last year of high school, I was exposed to many career opportunities that promised a job security and a comfortable lifestyle. These career opportunities challenged my initial plan to study medicine and I finally decided to take the plunge after China offered me a chance to do what I always wanted to do from the start.
　　高中的最后一年，我面临着诸多的选择，有的许诺我可以找到一份好工作，有的保证以后我会有舒适的生活。这些选择动摇了我最初想要学医的计划，但我最终决定冒险来到中国，实现我最初的愿望。
　　March 2013 marks the starting line of my Shandong adventure. I remember being in the airport about to board my flight to China, it felt like a dream, as though it was all in my mind. The reality of my journey only hit me when I landed in Jinan. Taking the bus with my future classmates and seeing their excited faces and confused looks as we moved around after a tiring flight. I started to panic and doubt my decision and question my calling. Was this a right thing to do? Given the money my parents would spend and the number of years I will be here studying I started to see that my journey would be a frightening but fruitful one. There was no turning back.
　　2013年3月，我开始了在山东的冒险之旅。犹记落地中国机场的那一刻，我觉得那就像一场梦，仿佛一切是我头脑里的想象。直到落地济南，我才觉得这场旅程有了真实的意味。经过长途飞行，大家疲惫不堪，我和同伴们搭乘同一辆出租车，大家脸上或是兴奋或是迷惑。我开始恐慌，质疑自己的抉择，梦想召唤我来到这里，但这是正确的选择吗？想想我的父母将为我花费大量的金钱，自己将在这里度过五年，我知道前面的旅程将充满挑战和收获。开弓没有回头箭。
　　My nerves calmed down after meeting the friendly university staff and feeling their warm kindness even if we could not really understand a word of Mandarin! For the first few months we used hand signs and simple phrases to get around town! I remember my favorited phrase 我听不懂！
　　直到见到学校工作人员，他们那么友好，那么热心，我的紧张情绪才缓解下来。尽管我一句普通话都不懂，但在最初的几个月里，我们依靠手势语和简单的句子也能应对。我记得我当时最喜欢说的话是：我听不懂！
　　Through the years I have grown, not just physically but mentally. I have learnt skills that will carry on through into my career such as being part of an amazing team of researchers who taught me how to read published articles and formulate an acceptable paper.
　　时光荏苒，现在我身心都得到了成长。我学习了很多对我未来职业发展有用的技能，比如在一个优秀研究者的团队里，我学会了阅读论文的技巧和写论文的方法。
　　I remember all my experiences, the best and the worst because through them, I have become a force to be reckoned with.  My best experiences are plenty but on top of the list has to be my graduation day. I felt like a king being honored by my university dean and having my closest friends around me to celebrate our achievements.
　　过往所有好的坏的我都记得，我已经学会了认真对待这些经历。最好的经历很多，排名第一的就是我的毕业典礼。那天，大学副校长为我授位，站在台上的我感觉自己就是一个国王，朋友们围绕在身旁，庆祝我们取得的成绩。
　　The China chapter has come to a close and the magnificent elements that were involved made me who I am today and through that I have become a doctor. This has been an unforgettable experience that I will never forget. I will continue to lift the name of the university high as without this fine institution, I would not have achieved my dream, my calling, my identity.
　　到今天，在中国的篇章就要走向尾声了。那些难忘的时刻造就了今天的我，让我成为一名医生。我永远不会忘记这段经历，不管我走在哪里，我都会高扬山东大学的旗帜。因为如果没有这么好的学校，我不会实现我的梦想，不会响应这份召唤，不会成为今天的我。
　　这是我生命中最好的时光，谢谢中国，谢谢山大！
