On April 4th, during the traditional Chinese Qingming Festival, MBBS students participated in the "Tribute to Silent Mentors" event held by Cheeloo College of Medcine of Shandong University at its Baotu Spring Campus. The activity honored and commemorated body donors who have made selfless contributions to the advancement of medical education, while inheriting the noble spirit of revering life and dedicating oneself to medical excellence.

The ceremony proceeded in a solemn and dignified atmosphere. Faculty and student representatives presented wreaths and flowers at the memorial monument. Everyone observed a moment of silence and bowed deeply to express profound remembrance and respect for the silent mentors.

Professor Liu Shuwei, a National "Special Support Plan" Distinguished Teacher and head of the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology, led the students in reaffirming the anatomical oath. Dressed in white coats, the students solemnly pledged to uphold the lofty professional ethos of "revering life, saving the dying, healing the wounded, and dedicating selflessly with boundless compassion."

Professor Cheng Yufeng, Principal Investigator of a National Key R&D Program and Vice President of Qilu Hospital, delivered a speech on behalf of the faculty. He emphasized that silent mentors are "the greatest educators in life and the deepest inspirers of the soul," teaching humility, responsibility, and compassion. He urged students to forever cherish the gifts of these mentors, using their imparted knowledge to heal, their ignited sense of purpose to care, and their exemplified love to fulfill the oath: "Health is entrusted to us; lives depend on our commitments."

Chen Zhiyan, a 2022 Qilu Medical Hall student representative, stated that silent mentors teach not only anatomical knowledge but also the responsibilities and duties of being a physician. She pledged that she and her peers would nurture humanistic care in wards and clinics, strive for medical breakthroughs in research, warm patients with sincerity, and cultivate the future of healthcare with youthful dedication.

Following the ceremony, faculty and student representatives visited the tombstone of Wu Chengxian, the statue of Norman Bethune, the anatomy laboratory, and the Human Body Science Museum to pay tribute to Cheeloo Medical pioneers and silent mentors by laying flowers.
