From August 15 to 18, the finals of the 12th China Undergraduate Medical Innovation Tournament & Belt and Road International Competition concluded successfully at Fudan University. MBBS international students from the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shandong University, delivered outstanding performances on the international track: a team composed entirely of MBBS students claimed the bronze award, and MBBS students also contributed to a gold-winning project.

Notably, the bronze award was granted to a team formed exclusively by SDU MBBS students, with Amir Mahdi Saeidi as team leader. Their research project, *α-Ketoglutarate Ameliorates Diabetic Wound Healing by Inhibiting Ferroptosis and Regulating the cGAS-STING Pathway*, impressed the jury with its rigorous research framework and innovative academic perspectives, fully exemplifying the solid professional foundation and research potential of SDU MBBS students.

The gold award-winning project, *A SWCNT-Based Multimodal Theranostic Nanosystem for Macrophage Gsq-Targeted Intervention in Atherosclerosis*, was also conferred the Best Teamwork Award. SDU MBBS students participated as core members of the team and made important contributions to its exceptional performance in the final round.

Widely recognized as the largest and most influential national undergraduate competition in basic medical research in China, this year’s event brought together nearly 4,500 teachers and students from approximately 200 domestic and overseas universities. These achievements embody the high-quality education outcomes of the SDU MBBS program and underscore the School’s dedication to cultivating innovative capacity and international vision among international students.
